Parvati Shallow is a Certified Hatha & Kundalini Yoga Teacher, Reiki Practitioner, and Certified Massage Therapist. She is also a winner & three time contestant of CBS’s Survivor as well as the current host of the Survivor After Show on CBS.com.
Growing up on a Hindu spiritual community, Parvati Shallow was exposed to the practice of yoga and holistic living at an early age. While attending college at the University of Georgia, her love for yoga deepened as she began working consistently with Bryan Kest Power Yoga DVD’s at her home. Loving the feeling of melting the tension out of her muscles like hot butter, she made yoga a part of her everyday life. She noticed her physical strength and flexibility improve as well as her ability to stay calm, manage stress and intensify her mental focus.
After graduating college, she followed her intuition and moved to Los Angeles. It was here that she became certified in massage therapy and Reiki as a form of energy healing. She spent some time training and competing as an amateur boxer while, at the same time, continuing her own yoga practice. As she studied with the amazing Power Yoga teachers at Bryan Kest’s studios she found her athletic ability and the ability to keep her cool in the ring far surpassed her competition. She also credits her yoga practice with her ability to endure life on a deserted island, competing in grueling physical challenges and winning Survivor. On the island she found the correlation between natural living and peace of mind.
Her adventurous spirit led her to travel around the world on her own and, later, as the host of CBS’s Around the World for Free. She explored the health and happiness riches of the people living in India, in the jungles and cities of Peru, Guyana, Brazil and many African countries. On her journeys, she discovered Ayurveda (an ancient Indian healing modality), learned to dance, eat, drink, sing and fight like the locals. The happiest people she met practiced healthy, balanced eating, celebrated life and connected daily with family and friends.
Back in Los Angeles, she studied the importance of structural alignment and flow in the YogaWorks teacher training course with Kia Miller and Sonya Cottle. Kia introduced Parvati to Kundalini yoga, a specific style of yoga that works to deeply improve the health of your internal organs and strengthen your nervous and glandular systems through a series of kriyas, breathwork and meditation. She was hooked, enrolled in the Yoga West Teacher Training and became a certified Kundalini yoga teacher. Her Kundalini yoga, meditation and tantra practice have given her many gifts, including: releasing past trauma, relieving pain from previous injuries and developing more control over stress reactions.
Parvati also provides personally focused private training sessions. Learn more here.
